Description
This instrument is associated with the Cyfarthfa Band, one of the greatest and oldest virtuoso nineteen-century brass bands, founded in 1838 by iron magnate Robert Thompson Crawshay. It was made in France for British market, and imported by Dan Godfrey & Sons. It is a slide bass trombone made of brass in two sections (slide section and bell section), joined by a tenon-socket joint. The bell section has a main tuning slide. The slide section has a brace with a screw mechanism that would hold a handle, now missing. There is one water-key on the slide bow. Nominal pitch: G.
