Description
This instrument is associated with the Cyfarthfa Band, one of the greatest and oldest virtuoso nineteen-century brass bands, founded in 1838 by iron magnate Robert Thompson Crawshay. It was made for the British market, probably in France, and it was imported by Dan Godfrey & Sons. It is a cornet made of entirely of brass, having three top-sprung piston valves (one missing), with nickel-silver buttons, brass disc three-pin guides inside inner casings, and cork bumpers (of these later three, only one of each remain in the complete piston). There is also a double water-key. The bell is severed. Nominal pitch: probably B-flat.
