Description
"The bung'o oboe consists of three parts: a cylindrical bamboo tube with 3 fingerholes for pitch variation, a conical bell in wood; and double reed with pirouette. The large oboe is a solo instrument, used in the Sengenya dance, played during the short intervals and signalling the movement of the dances. The songs will tell the occasion (wedding, funeral, harvest, child birth). They sing the song and people respond to it: call and respons. NB: Sengenya dance: dance of the coastal people among the Mijikenda community; mixed dance. Not sure where names come from ; before we did not have names for the dances, we gave names because Europeans asked how the dances were named. Sengenya = swahili name for gossiping" (Valentine Kihuha, Daniel Mabonga, Raymond Mutawali McKenzie, Ruiru, Nairobi, 22 and 24 November 2018) Made in the class Organology - Traditional musical Instruments, Music Department, Kenyatta University, Ruiru, Nairobi Style: Coastal region
