Description
This instrument might be associated with the Cyfartfha Band, one of the greatest and oldest virtuoso nineteen-century brass bands, founded in 1838 by iron magnate Robert Thompson Crawshay. It is a cornet made entirely of brass with three top-sprung piston valves. It has one water key located on the leadpipe bow and a moveable (detachable) lyre holder. Windway direction: the mouthpiece leads into the first valve; the third valve leads into main tuning slide; tuning slide leads to bell pipe. The finger hook is broken and the water-key nipple is missing. Nominal pitch: A-flat.
