Description
Viol that looks somewhat like a cello, with an arched back, overhanging edges, f-holes, and a tailgut mounting for the tailpiece. However, the broad neck and sloping upper back are typical of the viol, and the pegbox was made for six strings. The belly is carved from two pieces of softwood, while the back, also of two pieces, is of figured maple. The neck, fingerboard and tailpiece are modern replacements, though the pegbox is original.
