Description

This pitch pipe is an early example of this type of instrument, which was mostly used in 18th and 19th century churches which had no organ, to give the opening note for a hymn. This square pipe is made of walnut, while the pitcher is made of pine. The pitcher has also an inscribed lead marked with the notes from a diatonic scale: when the instrument is blown and where the pitcher is set in the correct position, the indicated note will be given. This pitch pipe was used in Aspatria Church.
