Description

The guinbri, or gunibri, is a plucked lute from the regions of North Africa, easily recognizable by its tortoise-shell resonator covered with stretched skin. This example is a spike form of the instrument in which the neck goes through the whole resonator body. The neck has a tapered and turned finial, and accommodation for two friction pegs and respective strings, which would be secured at the bottom spike end. The skin is glued onto the shell, and has four sets of three small soundholes. The bridge is also missing.
