Description

"The sound box of this fiddle is made of a hollowed outpiece of wood, covered on one end with animal skin (used to be lizard skin). The iron string is tuned by tightening the peg. A rubber ring serves to hold the thumb in a stable position. The bridge is a small loose piece of bamboo. The orutu provides melodic accompaniment to dances. The fiddle is played by the soloist who sings and plays at the same time." (Valentine Kihuha, Geoffry Aswani, 21, 27 November 2018) Made in the class Organology - Traditional musical Instruments, Music Department, Kenyatta University, Ruiru, Nairobi Style: West Kenya
