Description

This is a hand-made violin in the white (no evidence that varnishing was intended), with a hand-made bow. Unique design with pierced f-holes. Wood presumed native to Canada. Bow of a unique design, possibly meant to have been played over-hand, tensioned by the fingers, as with some continental double bass bows, but also as some medieval European instruments, including the fiddle when held in an upright position rather than horizontally, as common today. The proportions of the body are closer to 1:2 than a modern instrument. Fingerboard and neck are shorter, therefore closer to Baroque fiddle measurements, as is the low fingerboard and scroll. [Description from Mary-Anne Alburger].
